Little did I realize I should have worn boots for this photoshoot. For some of the shots, I had to step in 2+ feet of snow. I hate it when my socks get wet! But, well worth it. We had a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy the pictures!

Baby Grand Piano...Pun Intended

I can't say it was easy...but it was well worth it. This is definately something we have never done before. This 2 week old fussed and fussed and fussed whenever we tried to put him on the piano. Finally, we have 5 minutes of calm...we must have taken hundreds of pictures in that 5 minutes. But luckily, we got the look...Here's to our baby Mozart.

Boy Genius Teaches Uncles to Read

We were at a family get-together and our nephew, Niko, insisted that his great-uncles educate their minds through rigorous study of some of his choice books. We had to get a picture. Definitely a keeper.

Living Waters

For over a year now, our Christus statue has stood in this position in front of our mini water fountain. We always thought the symbolism was profound, namely that Christ invites us to partake of living waters, so we decided to capture it in a photograph. You probably wouldn't guess what the main light source is...it's actually a candle. The idea actually came to me a couple days ago when we decided to light a candle in our living room. I thought it looked really cool, so 50+ photos later, here's the final product--candle lit and all.

The secret revealed

Thank you all for your guesses. Amber and I were genuinely impressed. Let me first demonstrate how it was done, then tell who wins the sacred grove prints. As I said before, your camera cannot view multiple exposures at once. So how do we do it? We take multiple exposures. For this, I shot at: f/10 at 2 sec, f/10 at 3 sec, and f/10 at 1 sec. (FYI, this technique of taking multiple exposures is called bracketing). Then, I stacked the photos on top of one another in photoshop, then starting hiding various parts of each layer--hiding those parts which are too dark or too bright until then end product is one image with even lighting all the way through. Beauty eh?
=

And the winner is....well, we actually decided to give it to two people. Cole and Emelia Stapp were the closest, but Jerilyn Tobler & Spencer offered an impressive guess. They said it was done with a split density neutral filter, which is how they used to do this kind of thing before digital. So, congrats to our winners! Sabbath Sunset over Utah Valley

We thought this picture would be a really cool advertisement of some sort. Now, your job, as the reader, is to come up with a cool one-liner for this photo! We look forward to your comments!

This next picture was fun. I was photographing the reflected sunset on this car when this girl came out to take a picture of the setting sun. I just missed it...so, a little embarrased, I knocked on her car window and said, "I have a strange request...do you mind taking a picture again?" She was thrilled to be the subject of my next shot, and I thought it added a little more interest to the picture. What do you think?

Happy Valentine's Day!

Snow Cats and Gondolas?!

Dustin and I got to shoot an awards night in Park City a week ago. This group was from Boston area on a business trip. Not only had it been snowing heavily, making it a little dangerous getting there, but the shoot itself was more adventurous than we thought! Why you ask? Because the photoshoot was at the top of the top of the top of the top of the top of the top of a mountain. No Joke. The woman who coordinated it all told us, "You will ride the Gondola half way up, then a snowcat the rest of the way." (I honestly had to look up what a snow cat was). I figured it would be a 5 minute trip--tops. Oh no...Not even close. We spent twenty minutes riding in the Gondola as the wind nearly blew us around the cable like a tether ball. But that was only half-way. Then we spent the next twenty minutes in sub-freezing temperatures, scaling the nearly vertical snowy surfaces with a snow cat pulling a load of 30 people on a large sleigh. These conditions would have made Santa shake in fear. But we survived the evening, and got some neat shots along the way. Definitely going in the record book as one of the most unique photoshoots of my life. (And I do wonder how a restaurant on the top of a mountain gets its business).

And we got to eat GREAT food. (That's the most important part)
