Check us out!

So we did this shoot with our new backdrop! We're excited to order this print to go near the kitchen in our living room, a long skinny wall, probably printed 20x60 inches.

Tell us what you think. Do you like it? Should we offer this as a product to clients?

Flashbacks

Amazing, I just turned on my ipod to listen while I edit photos, and it was an Enya song, from the Watermark CD. Suddenly I was taken back in time to my pink bedroom, and my stout CD/radio/tape player, where you push the cover down to both open and close. What an unexpected familiarity. I suddenly saw myself again as a young woman, wanting to do cool things, and choose the right, and love my family, and be a good person. So many things have brought me to who I am today. Leaders, parents, friends, siblings… I feel strangely sentimental, and grateful for who I am and those that have been in my life. And many friends i have made since that time who continue to be a good influence on me. Thank you everyone for being wonderful!

We have a studio!

So Dustin had the great idea of buying PVC pipe to make our backdrop holder. With one trip to Lowe's, and a few cuts with their handsaw, we were home with an assembled frame that cost $22! Here's a picture, although there's crazy lens distortion, so it doesn't look level. It is. And those are our cheapo constant lights. We can't get rid of them though, because they do have nice bulbs...

So next we bought 4 yards of black velvet (it catches the light completely-- that's how you do those infant black pictures) and industrial strength velcro, and voila! (French speakers, did i spell that right?) My whole family speaks it, but i gave up a long time ago. Although now i can communicate with an almost-3 year old! We miss you Niko.

Anyways, here's a design of us, and pretend it extends down to include corban's head. Warning: no makeup was used in the production of this shoot, and thus i look terrible. Pretend i have pretty hair and makeup. But we got the hair light working, and it turned out nice for test shots. This is going to be a product we're going to offer families-- a strongly vertical large print (or horiz if they prefer)

Stay tuned for the real deal later this week.

Fake Pass it On ad

So in Dustin's program there's this huge test that those farther along in the program have to take, and it's really hard. Tradition demands the "first years" (which is Dustin and a bunch of other students who are starting out in the program) have to prepare care packages for those taking those test. Part of Dustin's contribution was the following mock advertisement to inspire them to make it to the end:

Our dear photo students (and whoever else wants to), can you figure out how this photo was lit?

Here it is

So i don't think i ever posted the final design. You can't see it too well in the street picture in the next post, so here's a clearer view.

$3000 billboard

I don't remember if i posted the final design from this cute model's shoot but I was passed on this photo of the actual billboard up in New York. It looks clean and well designed. I'm pleased. Go Fife Photography.

Storyboard

Check out the storyboard I just designed for this lovely lady (you can click to enlarge). She's beautiful inside and out.

Bath Time!

So i couldn't resist posting one of my favorite shots from this baby shoot-- our baby! Thanks for shooting it, Dustin! You did great!

If you want to see more, you can go to our family blog. ;)

Ballots are in.

So never having entered photography contests before, Dustin and I submitted a bunch of photos to the Cleveland County Fair here in Norman, OK, and we actually won some awards! Check them out.

Both got a third place award... Dustin in Color/Action
(this photo doesn't do it justice. See here for a better version)

and me in Black&White/People
(does he look familiar? those that have been to the lessons site...)

and some honorable mentions:
me in Color/Flowers

and Black&White/Scenery
Dustin in Color/Scenery

and me in Color/Still Life

not bad for first timers, huh. Just for the record, Dustin won awards for 2 out of the 3 he submitted (I submitted a few more than him). His absolute favorite didn't get an award:

But it's still his favorite.

Bountiful Temple: Sam + Racheal

Their photographer for bridals and engagments did a fantastic job. Check out this large print. Beautiful.

I love the real flowers on the cake.

Just a random camera sitting on a table. I don't see too many film cameras nowadays. Pretty cool.
Okay, so some background on this adorable kid. For some reason, he just would not look at the camera. So this is a rare shot. (By the way his giggle is priceless. I told his mom she should have it recorded and sold as a ringtone on itunes. )
So to make him more comfortable with the camera, i let him push the button. Here's his first picture. What a budding photographer.

And then i got the bright idea for him to take a photo of himself, so we'd at least catch him looking at the camera. He loved it.

In fact, he didn't want to stop taking pictures and have the flash light up the room each time. So here's a picture of his mommy that he took. This will be his future profession; i can sense it. ;)

Thanks, guys. It was special to be a part of your wedding day.
