Happy Anniversary!!!

So, mine and Amber's anniversary is coming up, so I thought I'd make a slideshow for her. Let me give a little background on the song. Years ago when I proposed, I wrote a song for her. My brother played the guitar and I try not to offend the neighborhood cats with my voice.
For our first anniversary, I asked a good friend of ours, April Meservy, if she would help be get it professionally recorded. She is a professional vocal artist herself, and is very talented. (visit her website, her music is fabulous). So, she hooked me up with an amazing recording studio guy by the name of Dave at Noisebox studio. After many so-called "study sessions" that took me away in the evenings, we secretly got it finished...just in time for our anniversary.

We hope you all enjoy it!

Indiana Jones IV !!!!!

So a good friend of mine (and former employee on the filming crew of Lost) is currently trying to get special tickets to Indiana Jones IV. He gets them if he has enough people watch the preview on his blog. Visit his blog and watch a preview!

Triple the fun!

I love photographing kids--I get paid to play. This was a fun group and very cooperative, even though it was cold and windy.

It's not often that I feel the need to comment on my own pictures. But I love the ones above because they have so much personality! They grab your attention in a fun way. I love her looking off in the distance, I love her hiding her face, and I love that she looks like she's just about to playfully run away.

I love these photos just cause they're so silly. That's the kind of face I would make in front of the camera.

I love these because they're so dramatic. She looks so pensive as she's holding her little dog, and the wind blowing against her is a nice effect.

Need I say more? How cute. Amber did say that she likes the photo because of the pattern of the bench augmenting the little girl. Of course I pretending I chose that bench for that very reason :)

Night on the Town

What a gorgeous couple! They were also very dynamic in front of the camera, which made the pictures look great. We hope you enjoy them!

Headshots of a comic

It's not every day you get asked by an up and coming professional comic to take their head-shots. But we got lucky enough to spend a bit of time with Dave Metcalfe (check out his website). It was fun hearing the inside scoop on some of the big names in professional standup comedy. I was just going to post it black and white, but loved the feeling of the color version too, so I thought I'd post both.

The power of a point and shoot

So today someone was looking at some of my pictures as I was pulling out my huge SLR. They noticed my camera, looked at the pictures then commented, "Yeah, I figured those pictures had to have been shot with something like that."
I was deeply offended...ok, not really. But it did make me say to myself, "Could I do all that with a point and shoot?"
So today, for Easter dinner, I spent some time with my old friend, the 4.0 megapixel Canon Powershot A250. Amber got this for me for Christmas when we were dating. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! All these photos were shot in Manual with natural light and no crazy photo-shopping post-production. Looks pretty good eh?

Ok, so this next one I cheated on. Amber was sitting next to the window and the shadows were a little too harsh, so I had her hold up an open magazine to get some light reflecting off of the white pages.

Not bad for a $50 camera! So, the moral of the story...whatever camera equipment you have is enough! We tend to think that good pictures depend on good equipment. That's not true. Ansel Adams, perhaps the greatest photog of all time, used equipment that you would find in your grandpa's attic; but his equipment was "good enough" because Ansel Adams was good enough. (officially stepping off of my soapbox now).

My new Church calling...

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was called as the Membership Clerk. I figured the Bishop saw in me a man of wisdom, organizational talent, and record keeping abilities....no...it was because I know how to take pictures. My assignment is to take pictures of every family in the Ward. I'm already about half way there! Here's some of our family members who happen to be in the Ward.

Not bad for a 30 second photoshoot.

Just for Laughs

So, Dustin shot a great wedding today, tune in for great shots from that. In the meantime, here's a picture I just HAD to post.

This shot was NOT set up. It was a mother's way of expressing heart-felt love to her daughter. (I'm just glad the shutter was fast enough to catch the action).

Fife Genetics

Who do YOU think Corban resembles most?

Happy 11!

We were going to wait another day to post, but couldn't resist.

3 Weeks and Counting! Infant Photoshoot

This photoshoot was actually a lighting demo for one of our photography students. But of course, I couldn't resist getting some shots of my own. The baby was perfect! He cried very little, and held still for our slow shutter speeds! In retrospect, I wish I had taken a shot of our lighting setup so you can know how much can go into these things...window light, 1-2 reflectors (depending on the shot), and two continuous lights. We hope you enjoy the shots!

It's amazing how their expressions change so much from one picture to the next. It looks like a completely different baby!

Rain and Hail in Bountiful, yet still shooting!

This bride came prepared with matching bouquet, shoes and umbrella-- all PINK!

Unfortunately, it began to rain, and even hail. We did our best to stay dry, but it was so cold toward the end, and she was completely soaked. Thanks for sacrificing for the photos, Mary!

Stay tuned in for a sweet slideshow of their images!

Always be prepared

Have you ever seen something this crazy? You would need a bag just to carry your "knife"! Amazing to see what Hammacher Schlemmer comes up with. Check out the specs.

And it's only $1,199.95.

Blue Skies, Gray Skies

I recently realized how much of a photonerd I am. Amber and I were driving down freedom blvd and there were some sweet cloud formations off to the South. In my mind I started planning how I would set up the shot: I would have the bride and groom sitting on a bench in the middle of this busy 4 lane highway, a strobe on each side of the couple to make sure they were well lit, a high aperture to capture the detail of the clouds, and some thorough post-production work. Of course I didn't want to let Amber know how nerdy photography thoughts had occupied my mind for the last two minutes, so instead I said, "Beautiful clouds eh?" To which she replied, "It would be so cool if we could have a couple sitting on the bench in the middle of traffic with those dramatic clouds behind them." My response..."you're such a photonerd." (he he). Ok, so half of that story was a lie. Oh well. We never did get a couple in the intersection, but we did compromise. Thanks Check it out!

Castles and Sopranos

This couple has just about the coolest wedding story ever...they actually had to fly a helicopter to get to where they were getting married...they got married on the top of a snowy mountain. No joke. Unfortunately there wasn't enough room on the chopper for us, so we instead did some shots the next day. And with such a fun-loving group, we had to get something "Soprano-like."

It's closer than it appears

We took a trip to Oklahoma recently to visit OU, where Dustin is official going to go to graduate school next fall. (And consequently, our business will be moving there too...how sad). But, of course we couldn't leave the camera behind! Check out some fun shots of beautiful Oklahoma!

I think we should get some serious royalties for the next 2 pictures:

And no family trip would be complete without pictures of "the Corb." He always likes to peer around the car seat from the back of the car to look at mommy and daddy.

Provo Fairytale

This was a fun shoot...just as most of them are. But this time especially because both of us got to be there for it. With a 10-month old, it's a little more difficult nowadays. Yea for babysitters. It's always fun having both of us there so we can bounce ideas off of each other. Overall, it was a lot of fun! And you can't even tell that the bride was freezing!
