I love waking up with the sun.

We have the best setup in our master bedroom. The sun comes right in to wake us with happy sunshine. Starts my day off warm and happy.

And I'm in love with the shapes the sunlight creates on the wall.

How do you like to wake up in the morning?

Contest: Are you ready??

Okay, so for this contest, it's pretty simple...

1. Give me a quote.

So i want you to tell me a quote or saying that is particularly motivating to you, or inspiring in some way. Include the words, and the author (if known).

2. That's it.

So submissions are accepted until Christmas Eve at 5pm. The winner will be chosen at random, and announced Christmas Morning. I will then design a custom setting of those words. The winner will receive their choice of either a digital file, or a printed & mounted copy of the artwork.

I'm one to be inspired by words, especially visual reminders of who i am and what i'm striving for. So... bring on the submissions!!!

Holiday Photography Tip #1

So, your house looks gorgeous. You've spent hours putting up your Christmas decorations. Why not take pictures? You can remember what you did for years to come, or have a beautiful picture of that delicate ornament you love (because next year it's going to get broken by small hands playing too near the tree).

Practice composing the photo, or give yourself an assignment. Capture the essence of Christmas for you, whether in your own house or community.

Here's a high-key image of a white tree with white ornament.

Post a link in the comments of pictures--put them up on your own blog, or picassa, or even email them to us: info {at} fifephotography {dot} com and we'll post them here for you!

Family Session: Casey & Julie Dick (favs)

First of all, let me tell you about the coolness of this photo shoot. Not only did baby E order terrific weather for the day, but we had these two friends along! They were hilarious. They were well behaved, and even looked in my general direction each time i called their names for the main family picture (see here). We did have a few other helpers also to watch over the dogs while we focused on Casey and Julie & baby E. Thanks for helping out, friends!!

So they liked playing tug-of-war... as well as running after each other!
OU campus is beautiful. Such stoic buildings, lots of fun. Great choice, Casey!

We even got some awake time from baby!

Aren't they just so in love?? I think that is awesome.
You guys are super fun to hang with (our viewing/ordering session went until 10pm!) and i look forward to more fun with you in the future. You have great personalities, and easy to get along with.

Family Session: Casey & Julie Dick

I'll post all my favorites tomorrow, but i thought i'd just put one up before bed tonight.

Btw, the linen cards were beautiful, turned out great. Maybe that's what WE'll use with our family cards... if those ever get done this year. Who knows. Shoemaker's kids go without shoes...

Wow. You just have to watch this.

So i was checking up on my awesome photographer friend Jessie, and stumbled across this great clip on her personal blog. Check it out. Anyone having been involved with a wedding will understand.

Merry Christmas!

So we're heading to Seattle for Christmas (book your session NOW, limited availability!) and thus not able to have official Christmas fun here. So Dustin surprised me today with a package that came... he really was listening to me after all!! For Christmas he bought me a new sleek keyboard. Mine is the old version and just doesn't type at all. I am now in heaven touching the gentle keys, and sleek design. I'm typing things to just type, it's so fun.

Maybe my blogs will be more wordy from now on, who knows...
In the meantime, check out this beauty. I LOVE it. i love it. Thanks honey!!!

Wedding Album Design: Brandon & Ashton

So this couple came to me long after their wedding to design their 30-page album. It was so fun to go back and relive those special moments as I created the pages. I love the longer albums, because it allows you to show more of the story of your amazing day. Ashton was such a princess in her dress, and Brandon her charming prince. Enjoy guys!

(Allow a minute to load the slideshow after hitting play. You can view it bigger on its own page here.)

About time for a contest?

So it's been a while since we had any kind of contest here. Anyone interested?? Leave me a comment....

Signature Mat

Hey, check out this couple's choice for their guestbook in Maui: a 16x20 Signature Frame for their guests to sign and leave a short message to the wedding couple! Great choice, guys!

Family Session: Lyon

These are from end of November that I never posted! This is an amazing cute family, smartest computer guy in the whole world. Sweet and talented wife, and smart creative kids. (Maybe it helps that i'm related to them too. That's why they're so cool.) No, really. It's great to have this awesome family close by.  Thanks for letting me take your pictures! Merry Christmas!

Can we say Bigger Photos?

Don't you just LOVE his eyes?? Wish mine were that cool.

Thanks to Tara for pointing out Rebekah Westover's post about how to post bigger photos on blogs. Great job, friends! Thanks for the tips!

Dohnal Family revisited

I've really enjoyed this time of year when all our family portraits are filling their orders to get their pictures before Christmas. This adorable fun family ordered a huge wall portrait of this shot, and as I prepared it for print, I remembered what a fun group of people these guys were, and how comfortable they were in front of the camera.

And here is a Christmas card design. Shh! I sent them one for free. Don't tell. It's my Christmas present to them. ;)

Holidays are fast-approaching. Don't wait too much longer to get your pictures and Christmas cards ordered!

Family Session: Thiels

These three are good friends of ours, and we were so happy when they asked us to take their pictures! I watch their daughter 2 days a week, and she is just a doll and happy as can be. Chase is in the same PhD program, one year ahead of Dustin. So we'll be together for another few years at least! Kate's a great playmate for our son. Dustin shot their session while I got food ready for thanksgiving feast! Thanks, honey.

We think you guys are great! Thanks for the pictures!
